Dogmeat shows that a loyal best friend can make even a post-apocalyptic wasteland more enjoyable. He will always come to your aid when fighting mutant creatures, and he can act as your trusty item storage throughout your adventures. Dogmeat has been there since the original Fallout, which only adds to the level of love and dedication this dog has for you in the end.
4. Riley (Call of Duty Ghosts)
Riley is not only a great dog, but a great character in general. Throughout the whole campaign of Call of Duty Ghosts, you’re left in anticipation on the fate of this German Shepard. Will he live until the end with you? Thankfully, we managed to live in a world where this dog was still kicking. Riley also makes a great combat partner in a fight, so rack that one up on the list as well.
3. Duck Hunt Dog (Duck Hunt)
While the Duck Hunt dog may not represent the typical companion, he does leave a mark on those who have played his game. He constantly laughs at your failures, which makes us want to show him up. This, in some odd way, make him the favorite of many gamers out there who grew up playing the NES game. Sure, he may be irritating, but that’s ultimately what makes us like him in the end. Heck, if he can make it into Smash, he must be iconic to some degree, right?
2. Wolf Link (The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess)
Okay, so this isn’t exactly a dog per say, but we feel that Wolf Link still makes a great canine. His abilities to see scents and howl songs while in the Twilight Realm make him unique in gameplay. Also, his teamwork with Midna throughout the game makes the platforming and mechanics of the game fun. So while not a true dog, Wolf Link still makes a great furry companion.
1. Rush (Mega Man Series)
It’s hard to make a case against Rush being the top dog in gaming. Throughout most of the Mega Man games, this mechanical pooch has followed the blue bomber everywhere. He can transform into a variety of vehicles in order to assist when needed, which shows true dedication to his owner. All in all, Rush fully embodies the ideal loyal companion.
