The Hitman online TV series is coming soon to Hulu. Based on the video game franchise of the same name, this show will be helmed by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad and will be made in partnership with Fox 21.

Since the very early 2000’s, the Hitman video games entertained players for many reasons. These range from the brutally brilliant gameplay and memorable music, to the colorful characters, dark story, and mystery of protagonist Agent 47. Despite Hitman’s praise as a successful and notable game franchise, the live-action medium was met with mostly unfavorable reviews. With two films universally scorned by fans, one would assume the notion that Agent 47’s onscreen persona is no more.

THE BACKGROUND

However, a recent article on GameInformer has freshly revealed that a brand new online series is in the works. Starring one silent-but-deadly bald assassin, this project will be coming to a Hulu service near you in the close future. And, while it is still uncertain who will portray the iconic character, engadget.com states that Derek Kolstad is set to serve as the show’s writer and executive producer. For those who don’t know, Kolstad is the creator of the popular John Wick action movies. Taking the man’s previous work into account, it’s interesting to see how he fares at the very least.

AFTER THE FACT

Engadget.com also reportedly states that the Hulu company “is partnering with Fox 21” for this project. The series’ plot is still unknown to the public. However, sources are hinting that the show would attempt to loosely follow the key elements of its video game counterpart. For now, only time (as well as the imminent success or failure of the pilot) will tell of what’s to come. The question is whether or not this upcoming online series will grab the attention of fans and critics in a positive manner and take off. On the other hand, there’s a chance that it will follow in the ways of the 2007 and 2015 Hitman films. Will it succeed or be another nail in the coffin for our enigmatic anti-hero?
