Valheim’s PlayStation Release Remains Uncertain

Iron Gate Studios, the developer behind the popular survival game Valheim, has confirmed that there are no immediate plans to launch the title on platforms other than Xbox, including PlayStation.

During a recent episode of the Xbox Expansion Pass podcast, senior developer Jonathan SmÃ¥rs remarked, “Currently, we’re only looking at the Xbox, but you never know.” Valheim is slated for early access preview on Xbox, with publisher Coffee Stain collaborating with Microsoft to facilitate the transition. SmÃ¥rs, however, wasn’t directly involved in those discussions.

Initially a surprise hit in February 2021, Valheim emerged from Steam Early Access to become one of the best-selling titles on the PC platform. A mere month after its release, the game had already garnered over 5 million sales. Subsequently, Valheim was announced for PC Game Pass in 2022 and later for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, as well as Xbox Game Pass.

Although there are no current plans to bring Valheim to other consoles, fans shouldn’t lose hope entirely. The possibility of the game eventually making its way to platforms such as PlayStation or Nintendo Switch has not been entirely ruled out.
