Shinichirō Watanabe and John Wick Director Team Up for Action-Packed Anime ‘Lazarus’

Lazarus brings together an impressive team, with Shinichirō Watanabe, the renowned creator of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, at the helm as the creator and director. Adding to the talent pool, Chad Stahelski, known for his work as the director of the John Wick films, will be designing the action sequences, promising some intense and well-choreographed action scenes.

The story of Lazarus is set in 2052, where a wonder drug is initially hailed as a cure for all illnesses. However, it is later revealed that the drug is actually a slow-acting poison, endangering the lives of those who took it. In response, a five-person task force named Lazarus is formed with the mission to locate the doctor behind this deception and prevent his sinister plan from wiping out humanity.

Moreover, Lazarus has additional musical brilliance to offer with contributions from jazz legend Kamasi Washington, Floating Points, and Bonobo, ensuring a captivating soundtrack that complements the action-packed narrative.

The animation for Lazarus will be handled by MAPPA, the studio known for its work on popular series like Jujutsu Kaisen. With such a remarkable team, there’s no doubt that fans of action anime will be eagerly anticipating its release on Adult Swim, although a specific release date has not been announced yet.

Given the upcoming Adult Swim Festival on July 22, there is a possibility that fans might get a first look at the series during the event, which would undoubtedly generate even more excitement and anticipation for Lazarus.
