Mortal Kombat 1’s Homelander Faces a Voiceless Conundrum

In the realm of Mortal Kombat 1, there’s an absence that fans find hard to ignore: Homelander’s voice. Despite Antony Starr lending his likeness to the character’s cameo, it appears that the actor won’t be gracing NetherRealm’s fighting game with his vocal talents.

The Boys star, responding to an inquiry on Instagram about voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1, kept it concise with a straightforward “nope,” as pointed out by the Twitter account UppercutLLC.

The revelation has left fans somewhat disheartened. Starr’s portrayal of Homelander in The Boys has been widely praised, making it challenging for fans to envision the character without the actor’s distinctive voice. The disappointment is heightened by the fact that Starr did provide voice work for Homelander in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 earlier this year.

While the reasons behind Starr’s decision remain unclear, speculation arises, with one plausible factor being the SAG-AFTRA strike that occurred from mid-July to early November. Starr actively participated in the strikes, documenting his involvement on social media. It could also be a simple scheduling conflict, though specifics haven’t been disclosed by either Starr or NetherRealm.

As the void in Homelander’s voice needs filling, the identity of the replacement remains unknown. The absence of Starr’s voice may be met with a degree of skepticism, but given the actor’s locked Instagram comments, expressing disappointment has become a bit more challenging for fans.

Homelander is anticipated to make his entrance into Mortal Kombat 1 in Spring 2024. Recently, Omni-Man, voiced by J.K. Simmons, was released for Kombat Pack owners. Exciting DLC fighters like Quan Chi, Peacemaker, Ermac, and Takeda are on the horizon, scheduled for release between Winter 2023 and Summer 2024.
