Hunt: Showdown Developer Diary Released

/>

Crytek released a new developer diary today on their newest asymmetrical -multiplayer focused title, Hunt: Showdown, which was revealed to be alive in May. The game is described by GameInformer as a mix between, “survival horror, shooter, and plain-old survival game set in a Gothic-horror version of the wild west.” Crytek released the diary to show how the game functions, and what fans can expect hopefully sometime next year.

The diary shows off what developers in Crytek are using to create the unique monsters within the game, along with how to balance encounters between different teams. Crytek is adamant on making each encounter between the monsters and other players different each time. They showed off an early level during the daytime, instead of the usual wood-filled environments seen during game demos.

The Hunt: Showdown, was originally unveiled with a teaser back in May, and then finally showcased at E3 2017, revealing the new multiplayer focus the game shifted toward in later development. Crytek first developed the game under the title, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, and was supposed to be a cooperative game set in the 19th century and be a survival-horror title with generated maps, despite The Order: 1666 comparisons.

In an interview with Polygon, Crytek described the process of the original title when it was free-to-play:

“We did a lot of creatures in Darksiders, a lot of bosses in Darksiders. [We wanted to] play to that strength, but always incorporate the co-op element. “There’s no artificial gates or time limits or impediments on your ability to play the game. That aspect of the game is free. And really, we spent most of our emphasis on that. That’s what we’re building.

The Hunt: Showdown releases with a tentative 2018 release date for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
