Hogwarts Legacy Sold $850 Million in Two Weeks

Hold onto your broomsticks, folks! “Hogwarts Legacy” has soared its way to record-breaking success, raking in a whopping $850 million in global sales and selling over 12 million units in just two weeks! Developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games, this “Harry Potter” action role-playing game has set the bar for the brand’s biggest global launch ever.

Hogwarts Legacy also set a new Twitch record for single-player games, peaking at 1.28 million concurrent viewers at launch. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, the game has been played for a total of 280 million hours to date, smashing company records.

Warner Bros. Discovery has reported a significant increase in global franchise fan engagement overall, with Wizarding World Digital receiving 300% higher traffic over the normal monthly unique visitor average for the first ten days of February.

However, the game’s success has sparked heated debates within the “Harry Potter” fandom due to J.K. Rowling’s controversial views offensive to transgender people. Despite Rowling’s lack of creative participation, she benefits financially from the game’s sales, leading some to worry that playing it is equivalent to supporting anti-trans causes.

Regardless of the controversy, David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Games, is thrilled with the response to Hogwarts Legacy, saying:

Our development team at Avalanche delivered an amazing, high-quality Wizarding World experience that truly fulfills the fan fantasy of life at Hogwarts, and our publishing teams have executed a globally impactful launch campaign.

If you haven’t jumped on the magical bandwagon yet, Hogwarts Legacy is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The Deluxe Edition will be available on April 4 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and July 25 for Nintendo Switch, while the Standard Edition will follow suit.
