Escape From Tarkov: Big Russian Survival Simulator

The survival genre has been a huge gaming genre for several years now, as people enjoy the rush and feel of luck being either with or against them. Scavenging from place to place for shelter, weapons, food and water is great fun: living a life as a survivor just trying to make it by day by day, especially when you are forced to survive in Russia.

For some reason, the PC gaming community loved being stranded in Russia, scavenging for loot, and killing each other. As such, games like DayZ, H1Z1, Player Unknown’s Battleground, and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series have become hit games to the PC masses, and so it is understandable that fans of these games would be fans of Escape From Tarkov, a Russian survival, scavenging simulator where you kill people. The reason this game is so interesting though is that it’s been in development for about two years now, and the closed beta starts in July.

But who care’s about a closed beta if nobody knows what they are signing up for?

Escape From Tarkov is a gem of the time. Over the course of two years, the development team made an amazing game. The game takes place in the Norvinsk region of the war torn land of Tarkov. The player, despite all the dangers, decided to stay and make money by scavenging supplies for various traders.

At the start menu, players are able to organize the gear that they take with them into the field and can buy new gear from traders if they want a better selection (if you have the in game money). You can gear yourself up with body armor, a helmet, headset, goggles, two main weapons, a pistol, and melee weapon, along with a pouch, backpack, and tactical rig to carry smaller items.

Once players are geared up and ready to scavenge, players have the choice of several different maps to scavenge, which range from the woods to customs to an industrial factory area. Once in the map, players fill their pockets, backpacks, rigs and pouches with whatever they find. Simple right? Except that players have to deal with other players, and the super intelligent AI “Scavs.”

In most games, the A.I. is nothing but a joke, and the only reason they can kill actual players is that they have overwhelming numbers. That is not quite the case in this game. The A.I. is advanced. Terrifyingly advanced.

For example, where the A.I. is now, they will wait for players outside buildings, if they have a reason to believe someone is in there. Snipers wait in advantageous positions, overlooking open areas, and if anyone crosses their sight line, they better have armor and a good helmet because that A.I. sniper scav RARELY misses.

If players do survive their scavenging venture and find some sweet, sweet loot, they still have to worry about escaping. That is right. There are a few different points that players have to reach to successfully escape with their goodies. And the same rules apply; if the player dies, he/she loses everything on them. But if the player does make it to one of the escape points, they can add all their well earned, scavenged goods to their stash to take with them (or trade) for their next adventure.
