Byleth Announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The final addition to the first fighter pass has arrived. Come check out the character who just got announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

One of the long-awaited Nintendo Directs has finally dropped, revealing the next new fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. There has been so much speculation and too many options to choose from for anyone to have known what was coming. And now, the first fighter pass is finally complete after almost a full year. Yup, it’s another Fire Emblem character — Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses will be joining the battle.

For those who don’t know, Byleth is an ex-mercenary-turned-professor who teaches at the Garreg Mach Monastery. I don’t want to spoil Three Houses, so I’ll leave their bio at that. They’re not going to be just another sword character though. Byleth will have an arsenal of weapons, including a bow, hammer, and their Sword of the Creator, which is like a whip-sword. Like many Fire Emblem protagonists, you can also switch his or her gender.

The new stage is none other than Garreg Mach Monastery itself. Just like Castle Siege, the map will transform into areas all over Garreg Mach. Another nice treat for fans is that certain characters from Three Houses will appear in different parts of the level. Other than that, we got some hilarious-looking Mii fighter outfits: Altair from Assassins Creed, a Rabbid costume, two Mega Man skins, and Cuphead for the gunner class.

They shared some of the next fighter pass’s details as the announcement wrapped up. For one, there will be six challengers this time. Then, Sakurai stated that “the contents have already been decided” for the characters. As in, there’s no point in begging for our favorite characters.

So that’s it folks — the first fighter pass has wrapped up! It has been quite a year of anticipation, and there’s still much more to come. Byleth will be the first character to kick off a new decade of Smash on January 28. You can get them for $5.99 USD or the entire fighter pass for $24.99 USD on the Nintendo eShop.
