What Size are MTG Cards?

MTG Cards are 2.5 inches wide by 3.5 inches tall or 63.5×88.9mm. Their thickness is about 0.012 inches, and the average MTG card weighs about 0.064 ounces, or 1.814 grams.

Now for more details. To begin with, let’s cover some basic and useful information about Magic card dimensions.

Firstly, let’s talk about the size of paper MTG cards. The width x height of tournament-legal cards is 2.5”x3.5” or 63.5×88.9mm, and the thickness of non-foil cards is about 0.012” or 0.305mm. Foil cards, on the other hand, are slightly thicker due to an extra layer that creates a shiny, holographic appearance. The corners of Magic cards are rounded at a radius of about 0.125” or 3mm.

However, it’s worth noting that these measurements can vary due to printing errors and origin. Quality control for card stock and printing has been a challenge for years, so don’t expect exact consistency from card-to-card.

MTG cards are made using two pieces of card stock glued together with an opaque adhesive, similar to regular playing cards, except for rule inserts and tokens which are made of a different card stock and don’t use the opaque glue that regular MTG cards do.

When it comes to the size of digital MTG cards in pixels, it varies. Digital images are measured in pixels per inch (ppi), while the printing resolution of those images is measured in dots per inch (dpi). The higher the dpi, the bigger the image will be in pixels. Assuming that high-resolution images are being printed through Word, 300 and 600 dpi are the two recommended options. To get the size in pixels, you multiply the size in inches by the dpi. For 300 dpi, the card size would be 750×1050 pixels, and for 600 dpi, it would be 1500×2100 pixels.

If you want to use a different dpi, you can easily figure out the size of the card in pixels on your own.
