The Most Disappointing Games of 2022

Video games, like life, can be filled with disappointments. Consumers have high expectations for the most popular games, but sometimes they fail to deliver. When a game has all the advantages and should be a great experience, but turns out to be bad, it is particularly disappointing.

These are the most disappointing games of 2022.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

The Pokémon series has been a part of many people’s childhoods. Still, it’s disappointing to see it struggle with technical issues such as poor framerates, low-quality animations, and game-breaking bugs. Despite its profitability, other game series have surpassed it in technical performance.

Additionally, the consistent push for annual releases is a significant contributor to these issues. It’s not enough time to develop a full-blown 3D open-world game, and it puts pressure on developers. The decision-makers behind this, whether it’s Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, or Game Freak, should stop to save the series from further decline and prevent their financial success from jeopardizing.

Gotham Knights

If you’re looking for a Batman game, the best options are the Arkham series from the seventh and eighth generations of gaming. These games, notably Arkham Knight, offer a solid experience. However, Gotham Knights is plagued by uninteresting visuals, lackluster gameplay, and poor performance.

There are some positive aspects, but overall the game requires significant improvements before it is worth playing. Given the resources invested in its development, it’s possible that these improvements could happen in the future, but for now, it’s best to avoid it.

Overwatch 2

Overwatch was one of the greatest shooters of its day, in my humble opinion. It was my favorite competitive game, but now it is gone, and its sequel has not lived up to expectations. The game is overrun with aggressive monetization tactics, such as predatory microtransactions, unimportant progression, tedious challenges, and a poor Battle Pass system.

While the gameplay has some clever improvements and the new heroes are enjoyable, overall, Overwatch 2 is a letdown as a sequel and a disrespect to its predecessor.

Saint’s Row

I appreciate developer Volition’s attempt to keep the best aspects of previous Saints Row games while addressing some of the franchise’s problems in order to attract new players. On paper, this seemed like a good idea. However, the game is plagued by technical issues, underdeveloped gameplay, uninteresting story and characters, and unsuccessful humor. It offers little that other games, including previous Saints Row games, haven’t done better. It seems to be targeted at die-hard Saints Row fans, but for the reasons mentioned above, many of them have already rejected it.

Conclusion

So there you have it, our pick for the most disappointing games of 2022. Do you agree with our picks? Let us know. And for all things gaming, stick with Culture of Gaming.
