Seth MacFarlane’s Surprising Introduction to Fortnite Before Peter Griffin’s Epic Debut

In a recent revelation on the premiere of the Ted TV series, Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, confessed that he had to seek an explanation about Fortnite before agreeing to add Peter Griffin to the popular game.

“I had to have somebody explain to me what the F*** Fortnite is,” MacFarlane expressed, akin to a man navigating an extraterrestrial fast-food joint. “And then I said, ‘well, that sounds kinda cool! Yeah, why not, let’s do it.’ That’s a lot of what my career is, somebody explaining to me: ‘how about this’ and I say ‘what’s that?'”

Fortnite recently welcomed Peter Griffin from Family Guy into its diverse roster, prompting a blend of amusement and existential contemplation for fans. While the game started as a PvE co-op builder, its evolution into a ‘Oops! All Franchises’ phenomenon is evident. However, MacFarlane, despite his involvement in the entertainment industry, had remained oblivious to Fortnite’s existence until approached for collaboration.

Taking a humorous dive into Family Guy’s potential connections with Fortnite, it was discovered that the animated series had made a couple of throwaway jokes referencing the game. These gags included Stewie expressing his intent to watch older boys play Fortnite in an electronics store and Joe claiming to have “leveled up in Fortnite” in a way that sounded unfamiliar to avid players.

Acknowledging that he doesn’t write every episode of Family Guy, MacFarlane’s ambivalence towards battle royales becomes apparent, especially when discussing the rendering of Peter’s muscular physique. He humorously mentioned being informed that the budget constraints prevented the creation of Peter Griffin’s actual body in the game, emphasizing the challenge of adapting the character’s standard moveset.

Despite MacFarlane’s lack of personal investment in Fortnite, the collaboration serves as a testament to the game’s widespread popularity. Epic Games successfully approached the creator and secured permission to feature one of his most iconic characters, highlighting the game’s cultural impact. The result? A surprising yet welcomed addition to the Fortnite universe – a virtual realm that now boasts the inclusion of Family Guy’s Peter Griffin.
