Overwatch 2 Goes Space Western: Cowboy Bebop Collaboration Announced

Overwatch 2 enthusiasts, get ready to dive into the stylish world of Cowboy Bebop as Blizzard announces its second anime collaboration event, set to kick off on March 12. This exciting crossover brings iconic characters from the space western anime to the Overwatch universe, allowing players to don skins and cosmetics inspired by the main crew of Cowboy Bebop.

Following in the footsteps of the successful One Punch Man collaboration last year, Overwatch 2’s heroes are depicted as fans of the anime within the game’s lore. According to art director Dion Rogers in an interview with Xbox Wire last year, these crossover skins serve as a form of cosplay for Overwatch characters, demonstrating their admiration for the source material.

Players can expect to see four Legendary skins available for purchase in the shop, along with an additional skin that can be unlocked for free by completing in-game challenges. The lineup includes interpretations of beloved Cowboy Bebop characters, such as Spike Spiegel, Faye Valentine, Jet Black, and Ed, with the free unlockable skin featuring everyone’s favorite data dog, Ein, as Wrecking Ball.

Fans have been eagerly speculating about which Overwatch heroes would receive the Cowboy Bebop treatment ever since the collaboration was teased in the season 9 trailer. While some guesses were close, the community couldn’t help but imagine how the new hero, Venture from season 10, would fit perfectly into the role of Ed with their distinct hair and goggles.

While Blizzard has yet to unveil the final designs of the skins, early artwork teases Ashe as Faye Valentine, capturing her iconic purple hair and outfit. Excitement is high, especially among Sombra players, as they anticipate how the character’s hair will translate into Ed’s signature look.

Beyond skins, players can also anticipate new emotes, play of the game highlight intros, and more to round out the Cowboy Bebop-themed event. Similar to previous events like One Punch Man, unlocking certain cosmetics may require players to participate in multiple matches, adding an extra layer of excitement to the gameplay experience.

As fans eagerly await the event’s launch, speculation abounds regarding the event’s overall aesthetic and presentation within Overwatch 2. With the strong cultural impact of Cowboy Bebop in mind, players can expect a sleek and stylish menu treatment that pays homage to the beloved anime, setting the stage for an unforgettable gaming experience.

While fans eagerly anticipate the Overwatch 2 x Cowboy Bebop collaboration, they can’t help but hope that the event captures the essence of the beloved anime while delivering exciting new content to the game. With just a few days left until launch, the countdown to March 12 is on, and players are ready to embark on a space western adventure unlike any other.
