This arcade racing video game was created by Atari Games and released in 1991. It was one of the oldest video games developed in New Jersey, indicating that the state started influencing the gaming industry long ago.

In this game, the goal is to control the four-wheel-drive dune buggy equipped with various weapons to defeat it. You start with the basic track, and after completing it, you will play through eleven other tracks.

You win the championships if you successfully browse all the tracks. Besides New Jersey, you will go through other locations, including Saudi Arabia, Las Vegas, Australia, and California.

Tony Hawk’s Underground

The game, known to some as THUG, is a skateboarding game released in 2003 by Activision. It’s the fifth entry in Tony Hawk’s video game series, and one of the most captivating.

The series allows you to get off your skateboard and explore different places on foot, making this entry different from other editions in the franchise

The storyline follows the main character and Eric Sparrow, who’s their friend, as they grow bigger because of becoming pros at skateboarding,

Sparrow lives in New Jersey and dreams of becoming a famous skateboarder. He also dreams of traveling across the US on his skateboard to experience every part of the country.

Max Payne

This is a popular third-person shooter game created by Remedy Entertainment Plc. It was first released in 2001, and three more editions have been launched. The game allows players to play as the main character, Max Payne.

The first franchise, which began in 1998, shows Max returning to his home in New Jersey only to discover that his house had been broken into by three junkies while on a drug called Valkyr.

Max tries to save his family but discovers it’s too late. His wife and child have already been murdered, leaving him in deep despair. After the funeral, Max attempts to find those responsible for his family’s death.

The Sopranos: Road to Respect

7 Studios, a renowned American video game developer, is the creator of this game that The Sopranos, a popular HBO Series, inspired. The game was launched in 2006, and to date, it’s still famous because it has an interesting storyline.

The game’s story follows New Jersey’s Mafia mob, one of the most notorious crime groups in the state. The mob is still in operation, and this makes the video game more relatable to players.

The action unfolds between the 5th and the 6th seasons and focuses more on The Sopranos mafia aspect rather than family, therapy, and business as depicted in the TV show.

The video game pays more attention to Joey LaRocca, Big Pussy Bonpensiero’s illegal son, as he tries to succeed in the family business. The game shows how The Sopranos are fearless about crime, making it thrilling to play.
Need for Speed: The Run

Electronic Arts published this thrilling video game in 2011, making it the 18th entry in the Need for Speed franchise. The game showcases drivers racing across various places in the USA.

While Need for Speed: The Run was not entirely set in New Jersey, we included it in this list because a part of the race takes place on the State’s Turnpike. This is one of the most famous roads in the US, as well as NJ’s iconic de facto symbol.

Stage 10 is the one set in the vibrant Garden State, among other places. In this stage, Jack races against his rivals from previous stages.

These locales are some of the best parts of this video game. The Run has interesting and gorgeous set pieces you will ever see in a racing game. Playing it feels like you are taking a virtual tour of the US.
