Marvel’s Midnight Suns Arriving on PS4 and Xbox One in May, but Not on Switch

Marvel’s Midnight Suns, the turn-based RPG game from Firaxis, was released on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 five months ago to critical acclaim. The game featured an impressive roster of superheroes, including Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch, and Wolverine. The game’s unique blend of card-based combat and role-playing elements won over fans and critics alike.

However, it seems that the game’s commercial success was not as impressive as its critical acclaim. The game’s publisher, 2K, confirmed that the Switch version of the game has been canceled. Fans of the game had been eagerly anticipating the Switch version, but it seems that Firaxis and 2K decided that the extra time and effort required to port the game to the Switch would not be worthwhile.

The news of the Switch version’s cancellation may be disappointing to some, but there is good news for Xbox One and PS4 players. Marvel’s Midnight Suns will finally be available on these last-gen consoles on May 11th, complete with all of the game’s previously released DLC.

New Expansion Pack

On the same day as the Xbox One and PS4 release, the game’s fourth expansion pack, Marvel’s Midnight Suns: Blood Storm, will also be released. This expansion pack will add Storm to the game’s roster of playable characters and introduce new missions to the ongoing vampyre storyline.

In addition to Storm, the expansion pack will also add Deadpool, Venom, and Morbius to the game’s roster. These new characters will be available to Xbox One and PS4 players right out of the gate, giving them the chance to create their ultimate hero rosters and take on the game’s challenging missions.

Why was the Switch Version Canceled?

The cancellation of the Switch version of Marvel’s Midnight Suns may have been disappointing for some, but it’s not hard to understand why Firaxis and 2K made this decision. The Switch is a less powerful console than the Xbox One and PS4, which means that it may have required extra work to get the game running smoothly on the Switch.

Additionally, the commercial performance of the game may have been a factor in the decision to cancel the Switch version. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick referred to the game as a “commercial flop,” suggesting that it may not have performed as well as the company had hoped. With these factors in mind, it’s not hard to see why Firaxis and 2K might have decided to focus on the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game.

Conclusion

While the cancellation of the Switch version of Marvel’s Midnight Suns may be disappointing for some fans, the new expansion pack and the upcoming Xbox One and PS4 release are reasons to be excited. The game’s unique blend of card-based combat and role-playing elements is sure to keep players engaged for hours on end, and the addition of new characters and missions will only add to the game.
