Marvel Avengers Creative Director Apologizes for the Game

Creating a game is a complex task, and the creative director at Virtuos, Cezar Virtosu, knows that all too well. The support studio, which worked on Marvel’s Avengers, faced a challenging production process, as Virtosu told Edge Magazine. Despite a competent solo campaign mode, the game struggled with murky identity and overly complicated loot-based systems, ultimately failing to impress fans. However, Virtosu is now focused on a new project, The Lords of the Fallen, which he describes as a “dream project.”

Virtosu and Saul Gascon, executive producer of The Lords of the Fallen, hope to make their studio a reference in the Soulslike genre. They believe in the project so much that they both left their successful careers to work on it. Although Elden Ring has set a high bar for Soulslike games, Gascon says that they want to be the second reference, as there is no clear second reference in the genre at the moment.

Virtosu did not have much to say about Marvel’s Avengers, but he did apologize for it. The game suffered from a difficult development process, which made it hard to deliver a game that satisfied everyone. Although it had its fair share of snags, Marvel’s Avengers did have some success with its solo campaign mode. But the game struggled with an overabundance of loot-based systems, which detracted from the game’s identity and ultimately led to disappointing sales.

Despite the challenges of creating Marvel’s Avengers, Virtosu is optimistic about The Lords of the Fallen. With this new project, he and Gascon hope to create a game that lives up to their dreams and sets their studio apart in the Soulslike genre. They have high hopes for the game and are determined to make it a success, even in a post-Elden Ring world.
