Horizon Forbidden West Heading to PC in Early 2024

Sony is not slowing down in its efforts to make PlayStation exclusives available on PC, following a reasonable exclusivity period.

Another blockbuster from Sony is making its way to PC, with the latest entry in the PS5 catalog, Horizon Forbidden West, set to arrive on PC in “early 2024” in its Complete Edition format. This version includes the Burning Shores DLC, bonus in-game items, as well as standard digital extras like soundtracks and art books.

The PC port of Horizon Forbidden West is being handled by Sony subsidiary Nixxes, the same studio responsible for the high-quality ports of titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (including Miles Morales) and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. This choice instills hope that players won’t encounter the kinds of bugs that plagued The Last of Us port earlier this year.

Horizon Forbidden West serves as the sequel to Zero Dawn, continuing the robotic-dinosaur-hunting adventures led by Ashly Burch, who races to save the planet’s deteriorating biosphere from vicious storms and a mysterious, unstoppable blight threatening humanity’s remnants—a storyline with broad appeal.

Although I haven’t had the chance to play it myself due to my staunch loyalty to the PC platform and, secondarily, financial constraints, the PS5 version of Horizon Forbidden West has garnered favorable reviews. Critics have praised its stunning visuals, engaging story, and enhancements in combat and traversal compared to its predecessor.

Speaking of the first game, while I did find myself somewhat fatigued by yet another expansive open-world map filled with checklists to complete, I did enjoy exploring its many picturesque landscapes. Additionally, I had the pleasure of disliking a new video game CEO, and Lance Reddick (RIP) graced us with his presence, so I had a good time. Therefore, I am intrigued by the prospect of playing the sequel.

The release timeframe for Horizon Forbidden West on PC seems relatively swift, considering Sony boss Jim Ryan’s earlier statements that PC players might need to wait “two or three years” before gaining access to PlayStation titles. Forbidden West initially launched on the PS5 in February of the previous year (though the PS5 version of the Complete Edition, the one arriving next year on PC, releases on October 6), making “early 2024” a solid two-year gap. Sony’s eagerness to bring its games to PC is clearly driven by favorable results for the company.
