Forspoken Demo is Highly Polarizing

Players can taste Square Enix’s upcoming RPG Forspoken as a demo has been released on the PlayStation Network. You can grab the Forspoken demo on the PlayStation Store. It offers a brief recap of the setting, gives you a short tutorial and then you can run around the open world completing some objectives.

The demo seems to be a custom sandbox area designed to show the combat and parkour systems.

Reactions are Mixed

Discussion among fans has been very divided with many people saying they love it, and a large portion of folks also saying they hate it.

Here are some of the responses on Reddit:

Extremely disappointing tbh.

Combat doesn’t feel good, I can’t place it but it’s just floaty and spammy, the spells don’t feel right.

The dodging is awkward and the lock on is absolutely terrible.

I did a little of everything, but the parkour and world traversal is also super lackluster?

I am so thankful that square decided to put out a demo for Forspoken because honestly I did not like it.

Controls felt clunky and unintuitive. R2 is the main attack button for EVERYTHING and it’s awful. Switching between magic is slow and complicated because you need to hold down multiple buttons and flick the stick.

Overall, we recommend you try the demo for yourself to see if you like it. In any case, it’s great to see AAA developers releasing a demo like this for a new IP. It’s a rare thing and something we should be applauding.
