Cyberpunk 2077’s Latest Update Shifts Focus to Mechanics and Policing Drunk NPCs

Cyberpunk 2077, despite CD Projekt Red concluding its addition of new features, continues to receive patches aimed at bug fixes and further refinement. The recently released Patch 2.11 addresses various issues, with a significant focus on improving the game’s melee finishers.

The headline fix is straightforward: “melee finishers will now work properly.” Players had previously reported a bug where finishing animations for melee weapons, such as katanas and mantis blades, failed to trigger, leaving V with lackluster attacks. Now, players can experience V’s creative finishers in their full gruesome glory.

While this mechanical fix stands out, the patch also brings a plethora of other tweaks and adjustments. Fixes range from specific scenarios, like addressing issues with quickhacks while Berserk is active, to peculiar occurrences, such as loot floating in the air or reappearing after being picked up.

One notable adjustment is the inclusion of a policing system for players who kill NPCs under the influence or engaged in braindance. The idea of Cyberpunk penalizing players for eliminating inebriated characters adds a humorous twist to the game, reminiscent of navigating a city center late at night.

Additionally, the update addresses the frequency of car chases, prevents financial losses when purchasing cars not added to the ‘owned vehicles’ list, and fine-tunes the brakes and suspension of motorcycles. Vehicles now also simulate “Brake Torque Vectoring” to reduce understeer during hard braking.

Patch 2.11 introduces an expanded radio management functionality in the settings menu. Players can now “sync to vehicle radio” to continue playing music after exiting a vehicle. Furthermore, the option to cycle through radio stations using the Radioport button and the ability to save the current station for a resumed experience in saved games have been added.

While CD Projekt has wrapped up work on Cyberpunk 2077, the company is already focusing on the sequel. The game’s narrative director boldly states that the original was just a warm-up for what CD Projekt has planned, despite the initial three-year journey to reach its intended state upon launch. Nonetheless, Cyberpunk 2077 ultimately achieved its desired outcome.
