Classic Horror Gem Until Dawn Rumored to Haunt PCs Soon

Originally released in 2015, the cinematic slasher experience Until Dawn might be breaking free from its PlayStation exclusivity to make its chilling debut on PC. As Sony opens up its exclusive game library, fans are buzzing with anticipation over the possibility of diving into Until Dawn’s gripping narrative on a new platform.

While there’s no official announcement yet, sources suggest that a PC port has been in development for over a year and is poised to be unveiled in the coming weeks, according to Dealabs (via IGN).

The timing aligns with recent news of an Until Dawn movie adaptation in the works, adding to the speculation that a PC release is imminent. With almost nine years since the game’s initial launch and no sequels in sight, bringing Until Dawn to PC and PS5 appears to be a strategic move to reignite interest in this horror masterpiece.

For those unfamiliar with Until Dawn, the game follows a slasher flick structure, where a group of friends reunites at a lodge a year after two went missing during a prior party. Players navigate through different stages, making choices that shape the story and determine the fate of each character. As memories of my playthrough recall, nearly everyone met a grisly end, adding to the suspenseful atmosphere.

While the game is known for its Quick Time Events (QTEs), Supermassive injected creativity into the gameplay. For instance, there are sequences where players must hold the controller as still as possible to avoid revealing their hiding spot—an intense challenge that adds to the overall thrill.

The potential port raises questions about what enhancements may be in store. A visual upgrade is a reasonable expectation, although the original game still holds up well. Improvements in performance could address frame rate fluctuations that occasionally hindered the experience, especially when compared to Supermassive’s later PC releases.

While the prospect of co-op in Until Dawn seems unlikely given its singleplayer focus, fans remain hopeful for new features. Supermassive’s subsequent titles introduced multiple modes, allowing for simultaneous two-player gameplay and a pass-the-controller party mode. Until Dawn, however, remains a solo experience, but creative players have found ways to emulate a party atmosphere by informally assigning characters to friends.

As excitement builds, the release date for the PC port is yet to be disclosed, but fans are eagerly anticipating more details during the official announcement. Stay tuned for the haunting journey that Until Dawn may soon bring to PC gaming enthusiasts.
