Boku no Pico – the Most Infamous Anime in History

Anime has been prevalent since the late 80s, and it started to enter the mainstream in the 2000s. This shit resulted in us getting some of the best anime to date, like Code Geass, Samurai Champloo, and the garden of sinner series. But of all these iconic shows, only one is still remembered in the same regard as back then.

It is a show which has carved out its place in the halls of anime history as being the most despicable and hated anime to date. If you were new to anime in the 2010s, then you might have heard about it or even have had it recommended to you by a friend. It is nonother then than “Boku no Pico.” It is solely responsible for destroying many people’s anime journey just as it was about to begin.

If you were to ask people in the anime community, you would get one of two responses, either they saw it and are still traumatized, or their friends trolled them by making them watch it. Though some exist, they were lucky enough to avoid it and only recommend it to newer fans. To put it accurately, it is so disliked in the community due to the primary genre of anime or hentai.

Yes, this is a femboy hentai with some of the most recognizable traps in history. This is why it is so disliked, as it was passed off as an anime when it should have never been touted. That coupled with the internet and its trolling tendencies, has led it to remain relevant even after 15-plus years. In this article, we will do the unthinkable and delve into Boku no Pico and its spinoffs to discover why it has left such an everlasting impression on the people who watch it.

Summary

The story of Boku no Pico revolves around Pico, who is a boy that looks like a girl and is confused by many as one. In the original episode, he starts to work at a café run by an old, and soon he meets Tamotsu, who develops feelings for Pico, which only strengthen when he finds out he is a boy. The following two OVAs focus more on Pico and Chico, with Coco joining them later in the third one.

That being said, Boku no Pico was still the most hazardous piece of media created in that period by anyone. After viewing this anime, there is a 90% probability that Pico will appear in your dreams to haunt you. Additionally, April 1st is the ideal day of the year to watch this anime since you can at least pass it off as a joke or troll your unsuspecting friends.

The making of Boku no Pico

Natural High Studio, which is entirely responsible for producing other works, including Pico to Chico, Pico: My Little Summer Story, and Shounen Maid, created Boku no Pico. As you can see, they have followed a pattern in this regard, and their main concern was leaving an impression on their audience that will last.

And wow, do they excel in verbatim repeating that! Because anyone who watches this anime won’t be able to forget it for at least 20 years. Katsuyoshi Yatabe was responsible for bringing Boku no Pico to the wider anime community.

If you thought it stopped with the OVA, you would be sorely mistaken as it continued past that with a game for PC and music videos, making the franchise far more profitable. The animation is generic late 2000s animation that lacks any flares that more iconic series of that time had, and it also doesn’t invoke nostalgia with its style. The more baffling question is how is it still profitable as it has been trademarked, and with it being available on Funimation and its affiliated platforms, who watches this? Many will stop it as soon as they discover what it is.

The Plot

To say that Boku no Pico has a story or any plot or narrative would be a joke, as each episode is only 30 minutes, with most of it being dedicated to, well, the hentai part of it. In the first OVA, we see Pico start to work at his grandfather’s café, which also happens to be the haven for Tamotsu, a white-collar worker. From here, Pico and Tamotsu meet and indulge in their activities. After the first OVA, any mention of Tamotsu is removed as Pico goes on to befriend Chico in the second OVA. Chico is a relatively normal boy until he meets Pico and is courted by him. The third OVA is where we are introduced to Coco, who interferes between Pico and Chico to get in on the fun.

The Characters

  1. Pico He is the main character of the series and is present in all of the OVAs. He has just started working in his grandfather’s café and is shown to be just an innocent boy at the start, only to be corrupted by the likes of Tamotsu. After the events of the second OVA, we are told that he is in a relationship with Chico after courting him. Coco also seduces him in the last OVA, which leads to much jealousy between the trio.
  2. Tamotsu He is a character who only appeared in one OVA. The reason is apparent as he is an older office worker having fantasies for Pico and also proceeds to corrupt him. A character like him would never have been animated in today’s landscape.
  3. Chico He makes his first appearance in the second OVA and happens to find Pico by chance, and upon returning home with him, he finds his sister pleasuring herself, which leads to Pico and him doing the same.
  4. Coco He is the last character to appear in the show. In the third OVA, when Pico and Chico are out roaming the city, he confronts them and manages to seduce Pico, which makes Chico quite jealous.

Conclusion

Hopefully, this article has been informative for you, and you can finally understand why this single hentai from the 2000s has still existed in the minds of anime watchers for years. Undoubtedly, it has left its mark on the broader community and taught us some precious lessons, such as constantly checking the tags of the anime and never believing in any recommendation given to you by a stranger on the internet. But if you still want to watch it, do so at your peril and beware that if you use it to troll your friends, they might end their friendship with you.
