Arrowhead CEO Confirms: Helldivers 2 Studio Not Acquired by Sony

In the midst of swirling rumors, Arrowhead Game Studios, the brilliant minds behind Helldivers 2, have firmly put an end to speculations of an acquisition by Sony. Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, took to Twitter to quash the hearsay, stating unequivocally, “This is fakeā€¦ unless I’ve missed something.”

Pilestedt also clarified the misleading image circulating, purportedly announcing the acquisition, pointing out that it sported an outdated logo from the studio’s early days in 2008. It seems the rumor mill got ahead of itself this time.

Just a day prior to dispelling this false narrative, Pilestedt swiftly responded to another tweet suggesting Arrowhead was already under Sony’s ownership. “We are not owned,” he asserted. “We are independently owned!” It’s evident that Arrowhead is content with their current status quo, especially considering the triumph of Helldivers 2.

With Pilestedt’s prompt rebuttals, it seems unlikely that Arrowhead will be swayed by acquisition offers anytime soon. After all, the studio has proudly maintained its independence for over a decade. However, given the overwhelming success of Helldivers 2, it’s understandable why publishers like Sony might be eyeing them.

The source of the original rumor has since vanished into the digital ether, hinting at a mere mischief-maker at play. It’s a salient reminder to exercise caution in believing everything one sees on social media platforms.

Setting aside the rumors, the Helldivers 2 community has had an eventful week. A recent balance patch has been rolled out, addressing issues with heavy armor, introducing meteor swarms, and extending the duration of Eradicate missions. Accompanying this update was a blog post from Patrik Lasota, head of product testing at Arrowhead, shedding light on the studio’s balancing philosophy. So, despite the absence of acquisition news, there’s still plenty happening in the Helldivers 2 universe.

And for the players out there: why are you still here? There’s a war to be fought, bots to be obliterated, and bugs to be squashed. Get to it!
