A Joyous Unbirthday to Disney Lorcana’s Second Powerful Cheshire Cat Card

Disney Lorcana’s highly anticipated second card set, titled “Rise of the Floodborn,” is set to hit stores later this month. Today, Polygon is delighted to unveil another intriguing card from the set: Cheshire Cat, From the Shadows. This marks only the second Cheshire Cat card to grace the game, and it introduces Lorcana’s formidable Shift ability.

Shift grants players the power to enhance an already-existing glimmer in play, effectively layering new creatures with fresh abilities onto cards already adorning the table. What makes this ability even more enticing is that these enhanced cards come into play at a reduced cost, demanding fewer resources to summon. When utilized adeptly, shifting cards empowers players to field cost-effective offensive units early in the game and then transform them into formidable scoring machines as the game progresses.

While several Disney Lorcana cards revealed from “Rise of the Floodborn” have displayed remarkable strength, such as Goofy, Knight for a Day, boasting an impressive 10 defense, 10 attack, and the capacity to earn four lore when embarking on quests, the Cheshire Cat featured in this set proves to be even more lethal. This is primarily due to its “Wicked Smile” ability, which enables it to banish any other character on the table, provided they have sustained damage. Inflict even the slightest damage on your buddy Goofy, reducing him by a single point, and the Cheshire Cat can swiftly remove him from the game. Additionally, because it has an evasive quality, only other creatures with the same trait can challenge it.

Since its launch earlier this year, Disney Lorcana has encountered some challenges, mostly stemming from fervent fans and deep-pocketed collectors. To meet the overwhelming demand, the publisher, Ravensburger, has expedited the production of a reprint of the launch set, “The First Chapter,” slated for mid-November. Simultaneously, “Rise of the Floodborn” is set to launch around the same time, featuring over 200 new cards, initially available at local retailers and Disney parks starting on November 17. Major retailers and shops will commence sales on December 1.
