As we get ready for E3 next month, we speculate on what we will get in terms of surprise reveals and upcoming games. While many pay close attention to the big three, or some of the publishers with a high presence at the show, we will turn our focus today to Capcom. Capcom sits at an interesting crossroads in terms of what has come out and what will come soon. On one hand, Monster Hunter World launched their biggest game ever and continues to find more flocking to it. On the other, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite came out with a less than stellar launch and its future was left in question. When we inspect at Capcom as a whole, they have just as many hits as they do misses.
Over on the E3 2018 Exhibitor Directory, Capcom will be in L.A. next month and with at least five confirmed games.

So while you can take wild guesses about what a few of them are, this is not final. Still, with what’s out there already and what’s coming soon, it wouldn’t hurt to explore some of what to expect out of Capcom. We could be in for some lovely surprises and brand new game announcements. So let’s look at the possible Capcom line up and possible new entries.
So what other monsters can be lurking around besides the Deviljho?
Monster Hunter World continues to have one of the best runs Capcom has ever seen. Since launching this year, the game’s shipped over 7.5 million copies worldwide. With E3 coming, it would be a safe bet that Capcom will make a big announcement for the game as they did at Sony’s Conference last year. Might we get another area in the new world open soon? What new or returning monsters are in the waiting? And what will the summer event look like? So many questions, and we can’t forget that the PC version of Monster Hunter World is coming in fall. If you’re a Monster Hunter fan, you better prepare for something special coming soon.
While Monster Hunter World continues to run wild, we can’t forget about the other Monster Hunter game that came out last year. Monster Hunter XX came out on the Switch back in August. Fans outside Japan were expecting Double Cross (or a sequel to Monster Hunter Generations) but it never happened. There’s still a chance that it may find its way across the seas, but that’s one prediction which is a bit harder to make. Maybe after World came out, Capcom had no interest in taking the game out of Japan. Still, if Monster Hunter Stories made the trip, Double Cross can too. Definitely would be one title that can help the Switch’s 2nd year.
Capcom’s Position In Fighting Games
Who will make his appearance at E3?
If there is one thing that Capcom is best known for, it is their fighting games. As of late though, it is left to question if that may still be the case. As shown up top, Capcom has two games on PlayStation 4 and PC showcased. The question is, will this only pertain to Street Fighter V? Or will we see another certain fighting game? At the time of this posting, only three characters remain in SFV‘s Season 3, and it is unknown if Cody will come out this month or next. Chances are that if he isn’t, his trailer will play at E3. If we do get him this month, however, that leaves the door wide open for the newcomer, “G” to step in. Will Capcom roll with a crowd favorite? Or take their chances on the ripped, blonde, Uncle Abraham Sam?
While it is likely possible that SFV will be our only fighting game from Capcom that leaves to speculation if there will be one other fighting game from them or not. The posting on the exhibitor list showed two games, but for all we know, it covers both the PS4 & PC versions of the same game. That leaves to question if Capcom is really abandoning Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite. While the game had problems at launch and support dropped pretty fast, there’s no denying that Marvel is sitting rather pretty with the recent launch of Avengers: Infinity Wars. If Ubisoft proved anything to the gaming world, it is that a game can rally back even after a poor first year. Something to which is possible depending on what they do. Will they add more characters? Or will the game die off? The ball is in your court Capcom.
To Speculate Action/Adventure
At this point of the article, we really don’t have any idea what else to expect out of Capcom’s camp. At this point, we know that Capcom will follow up on their two bigger games, but we can’t say what else could fill in the gaps if there are any. For all we know, the listings could cover the same game on different platforms. There’s also a good chance that we may see more games announced before E3 as well. For as much as we can say what to expect, chances are that the following games may also make an appearance on the show floor. The question is that out of those in the rumor mill or on standby, which games will make the cut?
Mega Man 11: Going Mega
We don’t know much of Megaman 11, so E3 may be a good place to showcase the next game in the series.
Towards the end of 2017, Capcom announced that Mega Man was coming back in Mega Man 11. While there isn’t much to talk about here, the game itself has a release date set for this year. A lot of speculation about what kind of new mechanics we’ll see alongside with the new art style never seen before in the original Mega Man games. There was also the brand new ability that almost seemed like a brand new mode for Mega Man, but we don’t know much else of what to expect. At E3, we may get more details on the blue bomber.
Dead Rising 5: The Re-raise of a Struggling Franchise?
Kind of a shame that Dead Rising 4 didn’t do as well as it could.
Due to the posting that had Xbox One, fans think we may get a Dead Rising 5 announcement. It wasn’t too long ago that Capcom confirmed that the game is in production although we don’t have many other details outside of that. Dead Rising 4 did not have as strong of a launch as they would have liked as the game under-performed. It left fans wanting so much more and it was clear of what the after-effects were.
Capcom Vancouver recently underwent a restructure that saw a good number of their staff dismissed. It also led to the short run of Capcom’s Puzzle Fighter that shut down last month. Will another Dead Rising game appear as an Xbox One Launch Exclusive? or will it stay put for now and wait until next year to rise? Hopefully, the next game in the series will knock it out of the park.
Devil May Cry 5: The Return of Dante?
For those of you that follow a certain demon hunter, chances are you heard the rumors about his impending return. With the release of Devil May Cry HD Collection and the crossover appearance in Monster Hunter World to dress like Dante and make his sword, it can’t be a coincidence. Also goes without saying, but we will not revisit the world of DmC.
Even an article posted on ResetEra teased the possibilities of the game coming out during the 2019 fiscal year. Supposedly, they would have announced it during last year’s PSX, but skipped it and scale up for E3 this year. Take this as you will, but know there is a fair chance that this may still not happen. If there was a time to announce the next game in the Devil May Cry series, this would be it.
Resident Evil 2: Revisiting the Glory Days of Raccoon City
Back to a simpler time before Leon a one-man army.
After the release of Resident Evil 7, fans are split about which Resident Evil game is the best. Some love the first-person view and how it brought back the scares. Others still prefer Resident Evil 4, and how it was so groundbreaking, it continues to get re-released with each new console and mobile device (Speaking of, we’re waiting on that Switch version Capcom). Though if you are a “purist” (or prefer the classics), we have the original game and the sequel that brought Leon and Claire into the spotlight.
Resident Evil 2 is almost like Square-Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 in terms of how people want to see this game get the remake treatment. Whether if it does what the original Resident Evil did by making an HD version of the game, or the “over the shoulder RE4-inspired” gameplay is anyone’s guess. Rumors continue to crop up every so often, but considering the success of their most recent title last year, it may not be that much a stretch if this could be the best time to make the Resident Evil 2 game that fans have waited a long time for.
Okami: Redrawing Another Beautiful Masterpiece
Could we see a preview for Okami’s appearance on the Switch before July?
Much like Resident Evil 4, Okami continues to see re-releases even a decade after it came out. While Okami came out on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 back in December 2017, the Nintendo Switch has a release coming soon too. We even have a date for it as Okami will come out on July 10th. As we have a game listed for the Nintendo Switch, it wouldn’t be that far off to say Capcom would promote their game coming the month after E3. What will be interesting is if they try to do something additional with the game with the touchscreen, or if it may emulate the Wii version in regard to motion controls. Whether if they will do it is anyone’s guess, but don’t act surprised if you hear about Okami all over again.
