It seems fans are taking the game’s tagline to heart: “Escape to your island getaway—however, whenever, and wherever you want”. Players have already begun taking full advantage of the game’s virtual world, despite it being out less than a week. Most notably, a group of friends surprised one user by organizing a weeding for them in the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, after their real one was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Reddit Post
The user, u/ashmush, took to Reddit to express their gratitude for the event, as this wasn’t the only event she’s missed due to quarantine:
My fiance planned it out with our best friends, I’m graduating from med school and not getting a graduation and our wedding was cancelled. I was feeling pretty down about missing out on my milestones.
This made me so happy, I don’t even have the words to describe how much it meant to me.
(Also if you zoom in close he made a little N&S for our initials on the hearts floor)
The Animal Crossing series, known for its wholesome events, doesn’t actually have a wedding feature, so this was done completely ad hoc by the friends.
Many people took to Twitter to congratulate the pair, with one finding solace as they are in the midst of cancelling their own wedding.
“My fiance and I had to cancel our upcoming wedding due to COVID-19, so our best friends gave us a surprise Animal Crossing wedding instead”
I’M NOT CRYING! YOU’RE CRYING! 😭
