Top 5 Video Game Cats

While dogs can be considered man’s best friend, cats can be seen as that friend that tolerates you. While sometimes aloof, these fur-balls have their own charm and cuteness that wins many over. Of course, just like many other animals adored by people, cats have found their way into the video game medium. From wacky fictional kittens to more realistic felines, game developers have created some pretty memorable cats that gamers praise. This is why we’ve decided to discuss our best of the best cats in the gaming industry. As always, remember that this list is opinion-based, and therefore might not correlate with your picks. With that out of the way, here are our top 5 video game cats.

Honorable Mentions: Bubsy (The Bubsy Series)

Bubsy hasn’t exactly had a successful past, with most of his games being lackluster to say the least. However, that hasn’t stopped this bobcat from taking the video game world by storm during his original debut. Bubsy drew in gamers from all over despite the poor quality of the game itself. With his own charm and charisma, it makes sense as to why. To Sum it up, while Bubsy didn’t win our love through his games, he certainly stole them through his wacky personality.

5. Rover (The Animal Crossing Series)

Rover represent that friend we all want in life. That friend who always listens and sympathizes with you, who goes the extra mile to lend a helping hand. From his very first introduction, Rover has shown that he’ll do anything to aid a friend. He helps you find a place to live, and he has conversations with you whenever you want. He even relates to your want for a home due to his own wandering lifestyle. If that doesn’t say “great cat,” we don’t know what does.

4. Morgana (Persona 5)

To some, Morgana is the reason many remember Persona 5. His overconfidence and superiority complex makes him one of the more memorable characters of the game. With the ability to shapeshift, this creature could be anything -but we’re sure most of you would prefer him in his cat form. His design screams adorable and strangely compliments his bit of an ego. In short, this cocky kitten earns his spot on this list by stealing his way into stardom.

3. Cait Sith (Final Fantasy VII)

Cait Sith probably has the deepest characterization from anyone on this list. With original intentions to sabotage your party’s goals, this robot cat has a change of heart and even ends up risking his own life at some point in the game.  To think such an adorable feline could have such an emotional arc. Obviously, his cheerful design and giant stufed Moogle give him some bonus points, but ultimately it’s his own growth that put him on this list.

2. Meowth (The Pokémon Series)

Almost as famous as the mascot of PokĂ©mon itself, you’ll be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t know of this devious feline. Meowth has that mischievous yet goofy nature that fans can’t get enough of. This cat set the standard for feline-based PokĂ©mon while also transcending into television and manga along with gaming. Needless to say, Meowth is a character all in his own right and therefore deserves a spot on our list.

1. Stray (Stray)

At the heart of the game Stray is a ginger tabby cat, who players take control of. The cat finds itself lost in a long-forgotten city, and in order to make its way back home, it must solve an ancient mystery. Though the cat does not have an official name, some players have taken to calling it “Ginger”, a nickname that originated from the description of “Be Gone-an Open Stray MAP”. The cat is referred to as “little one” by the Companions, but its lack of an official name does not take away from its popularity. The feline protagonist has already made a strong impression on players, drawing inspiration from BlueTwelve Studio’s co-founders’ cat, Murtaugh.
