Toejam and Earl won’t be jamming out to any beats this year because Toejam and Earl: Back In The Groove has been delayed once again.
Originally a Kickstarter project, Toejam and Earl: Back In the Groove raised over a half million dollars in 2015. With no timeline for a release, Toejam and Earl seem to be making their return some time in the next year.
This isn’t the first sequel for Toejam and Earl. However HumaNature Studios and co-creator Greg Johnson stated this would be the “ultimate sequel”. There have been two sequels to the Toejam and Earl games, though none of them have quite had the critical acclaim as the original title.
In late 2016 Adult Swim Games stepped in and provided additional funding for the game. However with that announcement it also hit another roadblock, their first actual delay. With Adult Swim Games behind them, HumaNature Studios pushed forward to get the rapping aliens back on track in 2017. However it seems there have been a few more stumbles. Despite 2017 coming to a close the game is still not ready. Thus, the release date is now “2018.” With no actual date behind the project and hundreds of thousands of fan money behind it, Toejam and Earl: Back In The Groove has some serious ground to make up.
In a recent Kickstarter update Greg Johnson had this to say.
“We tried super hard to get ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove out in 2017. Game development is an inexact science and it’s our priority to deliver the best, most solid game we can. To get the game across the finish line we need to push into 2018, but rest assured we are working our butts off and you guys are going to get an awesome game.”
Toejam and Earl: Back In The Groove is set to release on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. However with no firm release date, we are once again pondering successful Kickstarter campaigns.
