My thoughts about Nintendo’s E3 conference | Culture of Gaming

E3 has been and gone, and we have some thoughts about Nintendo's conference, including their reveals... and their lack of.

E3 has been and gone, but the only E3 conference I watched was Nintendo’s. There were some good things, but also some things that could have been improved in the Nintendo E3 conference.

What did I think about Nintendo’s E3 conference?

Nintendo started their conference off with a bang. A lot of banging and explosions happened throughout the reveal of Nintendo’s brand-new game, Daemon X Machina. Honestly, I was hoping this was another Xenoblade Chronicles X game. I will probably skip Daemon X Machina, but I will applaud Nintendo for revealing a brand-new game nobody knew about.

Sorry Nintendo, the explosive rave of flying bullets and explosions were not enough for me.

Speaking of Xenoblade Chronicles, Nintendo revealed Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna ~ The Golden Country. This was probably one of my favorite reveals and was not very “meh-meh-meh”. I love Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and while the game has a few flaws, I still found myself engaged and addicted to the amazing combat system. I would highly recommend this game to anyone that has not purchased it yet.

Golden Country is a prequel to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and is a completely new story. The combat looks a little different but it seems there are a few similarities. You can get access to Golden Country with the season pass.

Overall, extremely satisfied with this reveal.

More information was revealed about Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!

I personally will probably skip these games as well. While I do appreciate how different these games are, they do look a lot like Pokémon Go. They are very different when compared to the core Pokémon games.

I was a little disappointed because I feel like nothing new was shown. Outside of the Poké Ball Plus with Mew, nothing honestly surprised me about the new games. I love the Pokémon series and I’m honestly not interested in the Let’s Go series. Hopefully they will pique my interest in the future, but for now, I’ll skip it.

Nintendo Announced a New Mario Party Game.

I like playing Mario Party with friends but I don’t buy the Mario Party games. I generally play Mario Party at my friend’s house. It looked fun despite the franchise’s recent inconsistencies. I thought the implementation of the Switch gamepads was cool, though. Hopefully the Mario Party franchise will get its groovy funk back.

The new Fire Emblem trailer was expected.

Nintendo did a great job of showing some gameplay and the new features in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. A more accurate release date would have been nice, though.

I haven’t played all the Fire Emblem games but I have enjoyed the stories and complex battle system in the series. The trailer was one of my favorite trailers shown by Nintendo, so I’m very excited about Fire Emblem: Three Houses and I hope you guys are too.

Fortnite is now on the go.

Nintendo

Fortnite is out on the Switch! It has been something I’ve been considering downloading on my PC for a while, so I decided to download it on the Switch. It’s kind of fun and free. This is coming from a guy who is awful at shooters.

What are my thoughts on other games?

I don’t know a lot about Overcooked 2, Killer Queen Black, and Hollow Knight, but I will admit the games did look cool.

Octopath Traveler is a game I am considering buying, but, Nintendo did not show anything new about it. On the bright side, the trailer was extremely short. Although I would have preferred new footage over a short trailer.

Nintendo then showed a short video showcasing the Nintendo Switch’s 2018 software lineup. Most of these games I knew about. But I do feel like a few of the titles could have been expanded on a little more. I was also a little disappointed by the lack of a final date for Dark Souls Remastered.

There were big reveals and big disappointments.

The biggest reveal was Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. I am almost certain everyone was expecting a lot more news about Smash Bros. But twenty-five minutes, I think, was a little too long. Nevertheless, it makes sense considering Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a huge game. The game looks great and I’m going to buy it on release. How about that big Ridley reveal?

A new trailer for Metroid Prime 4 or Bayonetta 3 would have been nice, but it did not happen. I think we will get more news down the road about these games and future releases. Likewise, a new Animal Crossing, Star Fox, and F-Zero game would have been nice, but for now all we can do is wait and see.

Nintendo has a great line-up of first party games, and I feel like because of this great line-up, people were expecting a lot from Nintendo. I personally will admit that I was one of these people. Some of the games that I wanted to see were not revealed, unfortunately.

Overall:

Nintendo’s E3 presentation was good. I liked how they gave a fair amount of accurate release dates for most games announced. I do wish that more time could have been spent on other games other than Smash Bros, however.
