My Top Ten Naruto Openings

Naruto began airing in October of 2002 and finished airing in February 2007. Shortly after, on February 15 of that same year, Naruto Shippuden, a sequel taking place two years after the events of the first show, began airing. It concluded in March of 2017.

My Top Ten

During all that time, twenty-nine openings and fifty-five endings were created for the show. (Naruto and Shippuden combined) Below is, which in my opinion are the best ten openings.

10) Naruto Shippuden OP 4 “Closer

Known by some as “Shikamaru’s Opening,” Closer prominently features Team 10 leader Asuma, as well as Shikamaru in their fight against Akatsuki members Hidan and Kakuzu. Not a bad opening, good animation, and good music place it on the tenth spot of my list.

9) Naruto Shippuden OP 16 “Silhouette

(Source: Studio Pierrot)

Silhouette is a very well known Naruto opening, if not the most known opening in Naruto. Featuring a great song and great animation gets it ninth on my list.

8) Naruto OP 7 “Namikaze Satellite

(Source: Studio Pierrot)

Namikaze Satellite is a good, albeit a little depressing of an opening. It is also the only opening to not have Sasuke and Naruto fighting or engaged in some sort of conflict with each other for that matter. (Unless you count the memory sequences during the middle of the opening.)  Great opening, one of my favorites.

7) Naruto Shippuden OP 3 “Blue Bird

(Source: Studio Pierrot)

Blue Bird is a fairly regular Naruto opening. The reason it places 7th on my list, however, is because of that absolutely badass shot of Sasuke at the end of the opening. You gotta see it to believe it… Believe it!

6) Naruto OP 1″ROCKS

(Source: Studio Pierrot)

Naruto’s very first OP is unsurprisingly very good. Many animes nail their first OP and make it amazing. (See: Gleipnir, Noragami, Re; Zero, etc.) What makes Naruto’s first opening special is that… well, it’s nostalgic to many a Naruto fan, simply because it was the show’s first opening.. and, perhaps, things were a little simpler at the beginning when Sasuke wasn’t being stupid and running off with Orochimaru.

5) Naruto Shippuden OP 17 “Wind

(Source: Studio Pierrot)

Wind” is a very interesting opening. It has a art style that sets it apart from nearly any other of Naruto’s openings, and you also get this awesome shot of what I believe to be Might Duy (Might Guy’s dad) and.. Might Guy as a child. It’s a good song too, but every time they do a thumbs up, you can’t help but do one back!

4) Naruto Shippuden OP 13 “Not Even Sudden Rain Can Defeat Me

(Source: Studio Pierrot)

This OP is good because you get this awesome shot of Gaara sliding around on the water, as well as this shot of Naruto in his newly unlocked Kurama Link Mode transformation.

3) Naruto OP 6 “No Boy No Cry

(Source: Studio Pierrot)

This is a great opening. My personal favorite part is when it goes into the behind shot of the main antagonist’s teams/groups: (The Akatsuki, and then Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the rest of his followers respectively.) I wouldn’t count Sasuke as an antagonist because he’s still Naruto’s friend, even if he DID try to kill Naruto a few episodes ago…

2) Naruto OP 2 “Haruka Kanata

(Source: Studio Pierrot)

Naruto openings are always full of foreshadowing, and the second opening in the show is no different. Orochimaru’s eyes above Sasuke symbolize that he is watching, waiting for him to succumb to the curse mark given to him and search him out for greater power, playing on Sasuke’s determination to get revenge on his brother.

 1) Naruto OP 5 “Seishun Kyousoukyoku

(Source: Studio Pierrot)

This is a very good opening. Set during the “Rescue Sasuke” arc of Naruto, the major location in this opening are those woods that they were fighting in for a good 6-7 episodes, if not longer. A good arc for sure, very pretty animation. The way the light shines through the canopy of trees in this opening, I find it to be very pretty in particular! Great OP!

Honorable mentions: Shippuden OP 15 “Guren,” Naruto OP 4 “Go!/Fighting Dreamers,” Naruto Shippuden OP 19 “Blood Circulator,” Shippuden OP 20 “Kara no Kokoro,” Shippuden OP 7 “Toumei Datta Sekai”
