Naughty Dog’s new poster for The Last of Us 2 is hiding something.
In celebration of Outbreak Day, Naughty Dog unveiled a new poster showing an arm and a hand gripping a hammer. Below that a car burns, illuminating a dense forest.
This poster is a play off the Ellie one from Outbreak Day 2016. Kevin Tong, the artist behind the first poster, is also the creator of this one. It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to believe he’s creating a comparison between Ellie and who is presumably Joel.

Ellie’s poster is lighter compared to this new one, with a softer background, and the aspect of plants and moths (also teasing the design of Ellie’s tattoo). Her hand is also loosely holding the knife. The new poster is darker and much more aggressive.
But the most interesting thing about this new poster is the addition of a hidden wolf. The car in flames is the nose, the trees just above the hammer are the ears. It is currently unknown what this wolf represents; it could either symbolize that Joel is a lone wolf, or it could mean that wildlife – such as wolves and bears – play a greater role. The juxtaposition between the two posters could also mean that Ellie is on a different path, one of light, to Joel, who seems to be treading into darkness.
The addition of the wolf on the poster also strengthens the hints that The Last of Us 2 takes place in the Pacific Northwest, with theories that the game is set in Seattle.
