The Future of SMITE | Culture of Gaming

So it’s nearing the end of 2018, and Titan Forge Games of Hi-Rez Studios has come a long way. Lately SMITE has been making great improvements, from overall God balance to the Hera Odyssey Event. But what I want to talk about are the future additions coming next year. Along with a new pantheon from the Arthurian legends, fan favourites Set and Horus are coming soon, and boy am I looking forward to them.

Arthur and Merlin

So firstly, the new Pantheon coming out next year as stated before is from the Arthurian legends, aka King Arthur and Merlin. King Arthur is the next God coming out first as the 99th respectively and takes a whole new perspective of the warrior class. From speculation for Arthur, we have two stances reminiscent of Ullr’s. Meaning that Arthur is likely to have two kits depending on the stance change. Whether or not his ultimate will be the stance change is unknown, but if it is I hope that they add some other mechanic to it rather than just passive stats. This is after all the legendary wielder of Excalibur so it would not do King Arthur justice to have no flashy ultimate in my opinion.

The next God to come after Arthur is the wise mage, Merlin. Hi-Rez studios at this point already revealed that Merlin is also a stance switcher, switching from three elements of Fire, Frost, and Arcane. Not much is known about what the actual abilities do, but with the three elements I theorise that fire will be the main damage stance, frost is for crowd control, and arcane is a utility-based stance or perhaps buffs allies. Of course this is just my opinion, but I hope that each stance has the ability to work together. An example of what I mean could be bonus damage or effects if you combo a fire then an ice ability. It would reward a player for what should be a tricky thing to pull off. Only time will tell, but I am looking forward to Merlin being released.

Fan Favourites

The next three God releases are favourites that fans have been wishing for, and finally, Hi-Rez has graced us with that wish. Not much is known about what these God’s kits will be like. The first of the three is the Norse World Serpent Jormungandr and already is most probably going to be the biggest God in SMITE. Being the World Serpent, Jormungandr is most probably going to have a global ultimate or passive. Based on his physical appearance, one of his abilities should be able to eat Gods as a mechanic. Jormungandr is also known to have poison in its fangs, so I can see a poison ability also being added to his kit.

The second of the fan favourite Gods is Horus, the son of Isis and Osiris. Being the God of War, he was a warrior and protector of Egypt mostly known for defeating the God of Chaos, Set. He has a falcon head, and is a royal symbol for the Pharaohs. He is often depicted with a javelin and sometimes a khopesh, a type of Egyptian blade. Being a melee God it is difficult to guess what his kit will be, but I think his replacement silver eye that he got from Thoth will be brought up somehow. Either way, Horus has always been one of my favourite God in Egyptian myths, so I am looking forward to see what Hi-Rez does for him.

Now the last of the fan-favourite Gods is the God of Chaos himself, Set. He was known to wield and control storms and the desert, so he is most likely going to be a mage that can wield sand and summon whirlwinds. He is most probably the most anticipated God for years now. Out of all the Egyptian Gods offered in SMITE, he will be the first truly evil God, which is a bonus in my book. As for speculation of his abilities, he will probably be able to summon parts of a desert for crowd control purposes. As I stated before he can control the wind, so having the ability to create a storm or to knock up an enemy is also a probability.

Conclusion

So I’m really anticipating the future Gods of SMITE, especially since Hi-Rez have been taking great steps towards making the game better. SMITE is more fun now than ever, and from the looks of it, it’s just going to soar from here on now.
