Two People Sued Over Fortnite Cheating

Two weeks after the release of Fortnite‘s Battle Royale, Epic Games has proven that they will even use lawsuits as a way to deter cheaters.

Last week, Epic stressed that they were cracking down on cheaters. They hinted that they would not stop at banning users. And now, they have launched a legal battle against two prolific cheaters.

TorrentFreak has obtained two complaints from a North Carolina court. They name Brandon Broom and Charles Vraspir as the defendants. They both work for AddictedCheats.net and allegedly encouraged others to buy cheats.

“Addressing cheaters in Fortnite is the highest priority across Epic Games,” Epic’s Nathan Mooney said in a statement released last week. They hinted that banning players was only one step in the battle against cheating.

“Nobody likes a cheater. And nobody likes playing with cheaters,” the document reads. It also states that the defendant used cheats to “destroy the integrity of, and otherwise wreck havoc in,” Fortnite.

This is why you don’t cheat.

Both Broom and Vraspir are facing charges up to $150,000 in “statutory damages”. The complaint also lists a breach of contract and circumvention of technological measures. AddictedCheats.net is currently not the subject of this civil litigation.

Despite being banned nine times, Vraspir continues to cheat. He has registered new accounts under fake names to continue his cheating and has taken advantage of Fortnite being free to play. He also stands accused of writing code for the cheats.

Broom has only been banned once, but he is “working on his own cheat” and has publicly announced he aims to create “unwanted chaos and disorder.” He also stated that Fortnite was the “highest priority” for AddictedCheats.net.

While this is only a ripple in a sea of cheaters, Epic Games is sending a stark, clear message to players with “bad behavior”.
