The Sun Goddess, Amaterasu could be making her return to current generation consoles. Capcom is reportedly porting Okami to the PS4 and Xbox One for a December release, according to two sources identified by Kotaku UK.
The sources, two different European retail chains, have added Okami HD to their list of upcoming physical releases. Both retailers coming from different parts of the European Union have listed the same release date of December 12th, 2017. At the time of this post, Capcom UK has not given any official confirmations on this claim. Retail schedule information can be easily faked, but can also be inaccurate. Kotaku had verified both sources to be working where they claimed.
Originally released in 2007, Okami was set sometime in classical Japanese history. The game combines several Japanese myths, legends and folklore to tell the story of how the land was saved from darkness by the Shinto sun goddess Amaterasu, who took the form of a white wolf. It features a distinct Sumi-e inspired cel-shaded visual style to mimic classical Japanese artwork and the Celestial Brush, an in-game gesture system to perform miracles. The original game that came out back in 2006 was widely acclaimed and received several awards, including “Artistic Achievement” by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
