The Pokémon Company has just aired their latest news broadcast, which covered information regarding part two of Pokémon Sword and Shield’s DLC Expansion Pass – the Crown Tundra. The new content will release on October 22, 2020.
The Crown Tundra Break-Down
Similar to the Isle of Armor, the Crown Tundra will give you access to a new, snow-covered open area containing new characters, Pokémon, and a new story. The DLC also includes a new feature where groups of up to four trainers can explore the inside of Max Raid Dens and battle various Dynamaxed Pokémon. Based on the trailer shown, it appears that different paths chosen by the trainers determine the type of Pokémon you face.
The presentation also gave more information on the new Star Tournament that will also come with the Crown Tundra. This endgame mode will let you battle against and alongside important characters from Sword and Shield and the DLC. According to the information within the broadcast, the Star Tournament will offer players new story elements for various characters that compete.
A Pokémon Sword and Shield bundle will also release on November 6, 2020. This bundle will include either Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield, along with both the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra DLC. No price for the bundle has been confirmed as of yet.
Other Pokémon News
The Pokémon Company also announced that eight special versions of Ash’s Pikachu will become available via codes to celebrate the Crown Tundra’s release. These codes will be distributed through various different methods; however the video offered the first code – P1KACHUGET – for a Pikachu with Ash’s original hat. More information on how to redeem the codes can be found on the Pokémon website.
The last new set of information focused on the upcoming connectivity between Pokémon HOME and Pokémon GO. Pokémon Company President Tsunekazu Ishihara transferring Pokémon from GO to Sword and Shield through HOME would become available “before the end of 2020”. Players who transfer Pokémon this way will receive a Mystery Box in GO that gives the opportunity of catching the mythical Pokémon Meltan. Finally, Pokémon HOME users will receive a Mystery Gift containing a special Melmetal capable of Gigantamaxing in Sword and Shield.
