Nintendo has recently posted on its support page that it will soon conduct Nintendo Switch maintenance for the system’s online services. While performing online tune ups seems standard, the company’s description of the maintenance could allude to something bigger.
Currently, Nintendo has scheduled the maintenance period for April 20th from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM PT (9:00 PM – 11:00 PM EST) for the “distribution of update data.” Though nothing within Nintendo’s notes confirms what this could mean, it does state the certain online network services will be unavailable during this time.
Of course, this could simply refer to routine online support, but it could also indicate a possible firmware update. The last update to the Switch (Version 9.2.0) didn’t bring anything fancy to the table, rather it provided simple stability improvements. With that in mind, it does feel that the console is due for some new upgrades in the near future. Regardless, players should keep this date in mind if they plan to use any online functionality.
