To say that the Nintendo Switch sells would be an understatement. The console has seen nothing but success throughout its lifespan. This rings particularly true now, as Nintendo has sold over 800,000 units over the Black Friday week in the Americas. This brings total sales in the U.S. to a grand 17.5 million.
Likely due to the various Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals offered for the system, this has resulted in the Switch’s best week in the U.S. so far. The recent release of the handheld-exclusive Switch Lite also possibly contributed to these high numbers.
If that wasn’t impressive enough, some Switch games have also achieved similar records. For instance, Pokémon Sword and Shield have reached 3 million US sales this week, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has hit 8.5 million copies sold. Finally, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Super Mario Odyssey also broke milestones, with the former reaching 8 million copies and the latter breaking 6.5 million.
Of course, Nintendo has not and currently has no plans on lowering the price of the Nintendo Switch anytime soon. Based on these numbers, however, that doesn’t seem to have made a dent in profits. Thanks to the Black Friday week success, 2019 sales for Nintendo have jumped 20%, with 4.8 million Switch consoles sold in Quarter 2.
