After months of nothing, Nintendo has finally broken their silence in the form of the Indie World Showcase. With the last Nintendo Direct having taken place over half a year ago, expectations are pretty high. So what do Nintendo fans have to look forward to after the release of the hotly anticipated Animal Crossing: New Horizons? Quite a few new titles have been announced yesterday; here are the notable highlights from the stream:
Cyanide and Happiness: Freakpocalypse, a game from the creator of the popular internet comic strips
Anyone who spends time on social media has had a good chuckle at at least one of the sometimes cynical and nihilistic Cyanide & Happiness comics from creator Kris Wilson. Recently announced as Cyanide and Happiness: Adventure Game, Freakpocalypse sees the player taking the role of a survivor after a nuclear apocalypse. With an art style faithful to the popular comics, Freakpocalypse looks to be an RPG/adventure game sure to please hardcore fans of the creator and his work.
Quantum League time-travels its way on to the Switch
Quantum League is an addition to the competitive shooter genre that sees the player taking the role of a player in an arena reminiscent of Unreal Tournament. The unique twist comes in the form of a time-travelling mechanic where players will use ghosts of their past selves that mirror actions previously taken as a means to trap and outmaneuver opponents. It’s an innovative twist on the arena shooter genre and we’ll look forward to what developer Nimble Giant has in store for us later this year.
Exit the Gungeon primed for release on the eShop later today
In a most welcome surprise for fans, Exit the Gungeon, sequel to the hit rogue-like bullet-hell shoot-em-up Enter the Gungeon is set to be released on the eShop and PC later today. Acclaimed as one of the best roguelikes of the generation, Enter the Gungeon found success in its frenetic pace and satisfying gameplay loop. The revelation that players will be able to get their hands on the much-anticipated sequel is likely the best news of the showcase for many watchers.
What’s next for the relationship between Nintendo and their Indie partners?
These were just some of the highlights of the showcase. While hotly anticipated titles like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Axiom Verge 2 were absent, there’s sure to be a little something for almost everyone in this showcase. The full presentation, with all of the announced games, is now viewable on Nintendo’s YouTube channel. What were some of your highlights? Let us know in the comments!
