The SNES Classic will continue to live on into 2018, Nintendo announces, in light of high demand and low stock for the retro console.

Nintendo Europe has today confirmed that the SNES Classic Mini will continue to be stocked in 2018, a change from their previous plans to deliver the system until the end of 2017.

Demand for the SNES Classic Mini is high right now, contrasting a low supply. A press release by Nintendo acknowledged this fact, and it is this demand that has changed their mind. They have also announced they are re-releasing the NES Classic Mini in 2018.

At current time, purchasing or pre-ordering the SNES Classic Mini is difficult. Fears that people may not be able to get one are running high, so this announcement should dissuade some of those worries.

The NES Classic Mini was a surprise hit last year, with people hungering for the retro console. The SNES Classic Mini, however, was more popular, selling more on launch day in August than the NES did in the entirety of last year.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime addressed concerns about the SNES’s limited stock and price gouging on September 10, citing it as a main reason behind the “dramatically increased” production of the SNES Classic Mini. He urges that people not “over-bid on an SNES Classic on any of the auction sites” and states that people shouldn’t have to “pay more than $79.99.”

This appetite for retro systems has certainly seemed to work in Nintendo’s favour. Will you be getting one of these next year?
