Microsoft reveals Halo Infinite, Gears 5 and more at E3

It was games, games and more games at Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference. In total, there were 52 games on stage including 18 console launch exclusives and 15 world premieres. And they weren’t just any games. Microsoft announced the next of two installments of their biggest and most popular franchises.

Although Microsoft was light on the details, the next Halo and Gears of War chapters were revealed.

Microsoft led their press conference with Halo Infinite. Infinite will mark the return of Master Chief in what Microsoft is calling his biggest adventure yet.

Developed on the SlipSpace engine, Infinite appears to show Master Chief on an alien planet and a Spartan search party looking for him.

Later on in the show the veil was lifted on three Gears of War games. Two of them are mobile spin-offs. The first is Gears Pop! in which Marcus Fenix, Kait Diaz and all the rest of the characters are represented as cute Pop! figures. The second is Gears Tactics. Think Gears of War meets Halo Wars.

The next chapter in the Gears of War console saga is simply called Gears 5. In the trailer, Kait Diaz has been suffering from nightmares which she thinks are premonitions of horrible things on the way. Marcus Fenix provides back-up as she heads north to “where it all began” to find some answers.

Other games spotlighted during the presentation were:

Battlefield 5

We learned that the campaign will focus on the story of a Norwegian resistance fighter during the German occupation.

Forza Horizon 4

The Forza franchise is also expanding with Forza Horizon 4. The game will take place in Britain where players will team with other real time players to take on co-op challenges. Microsoft is hyping the different climates in the game which will change not only the environment but add to it. For example, winter freezes a lake which makes previous inaccessible areas available. Forza releases on October 2nd.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is from the makers of Dark Souls and Bloodborne. It takes place in 1500s Sengoku Japan and is described as a third-person, action-adventure game with RPG elements. As a samurai warrior of sorts, players must rescue a kidnapped master.

Fallout 76

Is a prequel to the other Fallout games. It apparently is four times the size of Fallout 4. Leaving the underground shelter after the cataclysm, the players are tasked with rebuilding America.

Black Desert

A MMORPG in which you engage in crafting as well as slaying gods and monsters.

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course

In this DLC, Cuphead and Mugman join forces with the new Ms. Chalice on a new island full of danger and puzzles.

Metro Exodus

Russia has been overrun and devastated beyond all measure. Players are seen putting their guns together from various pieces. There are human foes and flying, giant monsters.

Crackdown 3

The usual Crackdown bluster, with big guns, super powers. This time we see an Agent vehicle transform into a tank.

Kingdom Hearts III

Sora, Donald and Goofy team up to put an end to an evil force known as the Heartless. Characters from Frozen, Wreck It Ralph, Hercules were shown with Princess Elsa concerned she will fall to the dark side.

Devil May Cry 5

The next chapter in the series will be coming to Xbox in the spring of 2019. Three demon hunters face another demon invasion.

Dying Light 2

The hook of this sequel is that your actions, decisions will change the world and your story. As an example, we saw successful negotiations for a water supply. That altered the city but brought in other gangs intent on claiming the supply for themselves.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

A Mayan apocalypse looms on the horizon as Lara Croft releases something she shouldn’t have into the world.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2

Suffering through a civil war, The Division attempts to put everything right and save America.

Cyberpunk 2077

The open world RPG ended the press conference. In the dangerous metropolis of Night City, you are V, a mercenary operating in a world of cyborgs, netrunners and corporate lifehackers.

Other games that were highlighted were:

Jump Force: Pulls from the heroes and villains from Shueisha’s Jump manga. Characters from Dragon Ball Z, One Piece and Nartuo were on display. Just Cause 4, Nier: Automata Become as Gods Edition, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Session (skateboarding game), Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, Tunic (Zelda with a fox?) and We Happy Few.
