Marvel’s Avengers got a trailer, a release date, and four developers?

The Avengers Project was one of the most highly anticipated games going into E3 2019. Square Enix, who had been radio silent about the project for over two years, finally announced that they had content to show from the game.

Square Enix concluded their E3 presentation with a cinematic trailer, in-engine footage, and a rough outline of their post-launch plans for the game. Titled Marvel’s Avengers, it promises to be an original story we have never seen before, and aims to draw players into a universe where they could play for years to come.

The @PlayAvengers twitter account described the game as “an epic action-adventure game that combines cinematic storytelling with single-player & co-operative gameplay.”

Marvel’s Avengers begins in San Francisco where the Avengers are celebrating A-Day, a holiday dedicated to the Avengers themselves, by unveiling their new Avengers Tower and Experimental Helicarrier. That is, until an accident occurs which destroys the Helicarrier and results in an explosion that ‘seemingly’ kills Captain America and thousands of people.

The game will feature the aforementioned campaign at launch, but also promises years of regular updates that will add new campaigns, new heroes, and new regions to explore. New heroes and regions will be added at no extra cost to the player; it is presumed that only the campaigns will require an additional fee.

Co-op has also been confirmed, allowing up to four players the ability to assemble and take on “ever-escalating, world-ending threats” with the Avenger of their choice.

Confirmed Avengers:

  • Tony Stark (Iron Man)
  • Bruce Banner (Hulk)
  • Thor
  • Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow)
  • Steve Rogers (Captain America)
  • Hank Pym (Ant-man)
