With Bioware having tremendous success with their recent Mass Effect franchise and with their solid story driven RPG Dragon Age, the company has gone through many successful periods; Especially with their upcoming multiplayer RPG Anthem. It delivered a groundbreaking trailer in this year’s E3 and left fans eager to see what’s to come.
It comes with great sadness to report that Anthem‘s Lead Designer Corey Gaspur has passed away. Corey Gaspur had tremendous success with Bioware through the years working on big and popular titles.
Bioware released an official statement on Corey’s passing stating :
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and colleague Corey Gaspur.
He was a member of our team for over nine years and worked as a designer on many of our titles, including Sonic Chronicles, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2 and 3, and most recently Anthem.
Corey was a talented designer and an even better person. We offer our condolences to Corey’s family and everyone that knew him.
We will miss you.”
Corey lived an amazing life studying game design at Vancouver Film School. He would later work on Turok in 2006 before joining Bioware the following year.
With Bioware, he began on first project Sonic Chronicles which then led to Dragon Age and Mass Effect. In 2010 he taught game design at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
He also consulted on later projects such as Dragon Age: Inquisition, Star Wars Battlefront, Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst and Mass Effect: Andromeda.
After Corey’s passing, Corey’s family and friends started up a charity to raise funds for his son and family to help secure a future for his son Cain Gaspur.
