A new Kingdom Hearts mobile game has been announced for IOS and Android under the working title Project Xehanort. Slated for a release this spring the games official site asks “Why did he become the seeker of darkness?” Suggesting the game is a prequel focusing on the series main villain Master Xehanort.
The Xehanort saga, the banner that the previous games in the series come under, was closed with Kingdom Hearts 3 early last year. Making the announcement somewhat unexpected for the series.
It also comes following the announcement that two new development teams have been added to Kingdom Hearts projects, one likely the developers of Project Xehanort and the other remains to be seen.
The Kingdom Hearts Union X team, responsible for the series first prequel mobile title, are also set to make an unexpected announcement soon.
The announcement coincides with the release of Kingdom Hearts 3: Re-Mind, the first story DLC for Kingdom Hearts 3 released on the 23rd January 2020 for £25 on PS4. Xbox players will have to wait till the 25th next month to play the DLC.
Project Xehanort’s official twitter is currently running a contest for players awaiting its release to guess the game’s subtitle, a notoriously difficult task for the KH series. No further details were given.
