Kingdom Hearts Disney+ Series Possibly In The Works

Rumors of a Kingdom Hearts TV series have spread across the internet for ages with little evidence to back them. Now, it seems industry insiders have begun providing more solid information on social media about the production of an animated adaptation of the RPG series.

Cinema Spot writer Emre Kaya tweeted that Disney initially wanted to take on the project, but development eventually fell over to Square Enix. It appears that the company then created a pilot episode using Unreal Engine, the same engine used to create the games themselves. Kaya also mentions that the news would have originally come out as an exclusive article, but other insiders also knowing of the project changed those plans.

Other field veterans continued the discussion started by Kaya, including MCUCosmic founder Jeremy Conrad, who backed all of Kaya’s claims. DisInsider editor-in-chief Skyler Shuler provided even more information by tweeting that “Disney VO actors are expected to reprise their roles (Jim Cummings, Bill Farmer, Tony Anselmo).”

Disney had previously decided to create a Kingdom Hearts TV show shortly after the success of the original Kingdom Hearts in 2002. The concept got scrapped, however, due to the show not being an accurate representation of game’s plot.

Neither Disney nor Square Enix have made any sort of comment or announcement on the show’s existence. Therefore, while this information does lead to the likelihood of an animated series, nothing has been confirmed.
