In a tweet sent by publisher Abylight Studios this morning, a physical version of Hyper Light Drifter seems to be all but confirmed. A fan Hyper Light game tweeted a complaint at the publisher, asking if they had a physical release planned anytime soon. Abylight simply responded:
Working on it.

Developer Heart Machine first released Hyper Light Drifter back in 2016 (2018 on Switch) to near universal praise. It has a colorful, placid art-style mixed with top-down combat and a silent, subdued narrative. Heart Machine’s lead developer Alex Preston says that he considers it to be a mix between Link To The Past and Diablo.
Coincidentally, Heart Machine also has another project in the works. Solar Ash Kingdom is certainly less of a top-down action game than Hyper Light Drifter. In the brief teaser that Heart Machine showcased just yesterday, we can see a robot skiing down the side of a mountain, before leaping off a cliff edge and preparing to strike a monstrous creature in the eyeball. Is this a skiing game? A combat-driven game? Somewhere in between? Hard to tell, but Solar Ash Kingdom looks just as gorgeous as Hyper Light did.
Also worth noting is that Solar Ash Kingdom will be published by Annapurna Interactive, not Abylight Studios. There’s no word on if it’s planned for a physical release.
