Now that the ball has dropped on the year of the LootBox 2017, it’s time to usher in the year of Gaming 2018 with a look at a few of the big sequels to release in the New Year.
1: Red Dead Redemption 2
This is considered by many to be one of the best games of the past 10 years. Red Dead Redemption is a revitalization of a Cowboy shoot em up from the PlayStation 2 Era. Few Developers have the stable of great games like Rockstar with the GTA series. Now the RDR 2018 sequel is sure to be another hit. A recent leak from a dutch website put the release date at June 8th which is much later than the original estimate. However, as of yet, an official date has not been announced.
Release: Spring, 2018
2: God of War
One of the longest running modern franchises, God of War has become synonymous with the genre and has drawn huge amounts of controversy with its depictions of sex and violence. The sequel coming in 2018 is set to be a massive deviation from the classic formula. A closer camera and a renewed emphasis on story and drama are paired perfectly with the revamped combat system. No word yet on an official release date just expect this sometime in 2018.
Release: TBA, 2018
3: Monster Hunter World
The Monster Hunter series is an international phenomenon that has been very underrepresented in western markets.
“In Monster Hunter: World, the latest installment in the series, you can enjoy the ultimate hunting experience, using everything at your disposal to hunt monsters in a new world teeming with surprises and excitement.”
A social game with emphasis on co-op play and JRPG elements, this installment will be the introduction to the series for many in the US. These games tend to suck hours and hours of playtime and are very addicting. This may be close to the 11th game in the series, but Monster Hunter World is looking very fresh and fun.
Release: January 26th, 2018
4: Far Cry 5
It may be the 5th iteration in the series but Far Cry 5 is looking to be the best yet. Set in the united states to feel much more relate-able and new., Far Cry 5 looks to have everything that made the series great plus a few new features like a canine companion and reputation systems.
“Far Cry 5 will allow players to explore the entire open-world in-game version of Montana alone or in two player co-op. Under siege and cut off from the rest of the world, players will join forces with residents of Hope County and form the Resistance.”
Until recently, Ubisoft’s open world games seemed to be plagued by the same cut and paste formula. However, Assassin’s Creed Origins 2 was released to critical acclaim and Far Cry 5 looks to have the same attention to detail as well as exciting new features.
Release: March 27th, 2018
