Gigantamax Snorlax Coming To Sword And Shield

To the surprise of many, a new trailer was dropped for Pokémon Sword and Shield. While most of the trailer focused on starter evolutions and legendary Pokémon, it also revealed an upcoming Gigantamax Snorlax event.

From December 4th to sometime in early January, Gigantamax Snorlax will begin spawning in online Max Raid Battles. Like most Gigantamax forms, Snorlax’s appearance changes, with a small forest-like area growing on its belly. This form also gains the move G-Max Replenish, which restores all eaten berries that Snorlax and any allies have used along with dealing damage.

Similar to current Gigantamax events, you will need to connect to the internet while in the Wild Area to participate. This likely results from Snorax’s spawn rate tieing into the game’s online Max Raid encounter schedule, which determines how often certain Pokémon appear during a certain time. Sword and Shield require a Nintendo Online Membership to go online, so be sure to obtain one before the event.
