BattleTech is a brand new turn-based strategy title that was released this year. The developers have announced their first expansion to the base game called “Flashpoint.” This new expansion will include new BattleMechs, a new missions type, and a new biome. What makes Flashpoint unique for BattleTech fans is that it is the first piece of content in a series of procedurally generated first stories according to the developers at Gamescon 2018.
The developer has said that“Flashpoints are high-stakes branching short stories, comprised of procedural mercenary missions linked together with new crew conversations, special events, critical choices, and valuable rewards…To ramp up the intensity, some Flashpoint stories will feature ‘Consecutive Deployments’ in which players won’t be able to repair their ‘Mechs between missions.”
The events of Flashpoint happen in a different region of the BattleTech Universe. Flashpoint’s aim is to tell amazing and diverse story segments that tie well into the BattleTech’s narrative. The new tropical biome also helps change the gameplay by allowing BattleMech’s to take advantage of unique water cooling systems that enhance a unit’s ability to fire more damage.
