Epic Game’s Fortnite will soon have a free to play Battle Royale mode.
The mode will see 100 player PvP mode which shares similarities to the ultra-popular Playerunknown’s Battleground. There will be one map and the last man standing will be the winner.
The mode will be free for PC, Xbox One and PS4 from the 24th September. Epic has said that cosmetic items will be sold as premium items at a later date. The developer has made clear that no items sold would “impact gameplay or give some players a leg up on the competition.”
Currently, the game is an “in paid early access,” and will go free-to-play next year. Nonetheless, the game has sold 500,000 tiers according to Fortnite’s creative director Darren Sugg. Fortnite currently has different “tiers” on sale ranging from the base game, at a cost of $40 to the limited edition which has a price tag of $150.
Development for Fortnite has taken quite some time. Announced back in 2011, the game went through many revisions. As CEO of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney put it back in 2016, “It is a game that takes time to get right.”
