Holy chocobos! The most recent Nintendo Direct went all-in on Final Fantasy. Not one, not two, but eight Final Fantasy games will be coming to the Nintendo platform. All is well in the world of JRPGs. Not only are five(ish) mainline Final Fantasy games coming to the system, but so are three spin-off titles!
The good news started by the announcement that Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD would be coming to the Switch. To be fair, we already knew that, but the surprise came with the reveal that it would be releasing today, on September 13th! However, viewers of the direct quickly learned that the Final Fantasy train didn’t end there. The surprise announcement that four other mainline Final Fantasy entries would be releasing in 2019. PlayStation classics Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy IX are making their way over to Switch, as well as remastered versions of Final Fantasy X/X-2 and Final Fantasy XII. (Sorry, Final Fantasy VIII, guess you didn’t make the cut this time.)
Not only that, but a couple of spin-off titles will be playable both on your TV and on the go, as well! World of Final Fantasy, which launched on the PlayStation 4 in 2016, will be coming to the Nintneod Switch with World of Final Fantasy Maxima. That game is coming fairly soon, on November 6, 2018. Later this year, we’ll be getting the dungeon crawler Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon Everybody, a remastered of the 2007 Wii title. Multiplayer RPG Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is also getting a remaster in 2019.
So much Final Fantasy goodness! Are you excited for more JRPGs on the Nintendo Switch? Let us know!
