Far Cry 6 Details Leak Through PSN!

A mistake on the Hong Kong PSN store seems to have spoiled Ubisoft’s announcement of Far Cry 6 likely to happen this weekend. While the error was quickly noticed and taken down, all the details from the listing have already been copied and spread around the internet. If you prefer to not know anything about this upcoming title before it’s official announcement, consider this your spoiler warning.

The New Villain

Far Cry 6

The major rumor this leak confirms is the actor portraying Far Cry 6’s villain. Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito stands front and center of the game’s leaked box art. For a series more well known for having charismatic and captivating villains, this seems like a perfect choice. Users who managed to spot the listing before it was taken down also report seeing a February 18, 2021 release date. What’s more, the listing also gave us some details about the game’s setting. The listing states:

Performance Lab® - Not all supplements are the same

“Welcome to Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time. As the dictator of Yara, Anton Castillo is intent on restoring his nation back to its former glory by any means, with his son, Diego, following in his bloody footsteps. Their ruthless oppression has ignited a revolution.

Play as Dani Rojas, a local Yaran and become a guerrilla fighter to liberate the nation

Fight against Anton’s troops in the largest Far Cry playground to date across jungles, beaches and Esperanza the capital city of Yara

Employ makeshift weapons, vehicles, and Amigos, the new Fangs for Hire to burn the tyrannical regime to the ground.”

With so much specific information in this listing, there’s little doubt that this game was ready for announcement at Ubisoft Forward this Sunday. Hopefully they have a few more surprises to show off for the title at the event. This all comes not long after Assassin’s Creed Valhalla videos leaked as well.

Free Far Cry 6 Upgrade!

Aside from the details about the game itself, the listing also mentioned one other exciting bit of into. Apparently all digital versions of Far Cry 6 purchased on PS4 can be upgraded to the PS5 version for free. The translation is a little wonky, especially with the game’s title, but the point is clear as day:

“Upgrade to the PlayStation®5 version: “Polar Cry 6” PlayStation®4 digital game provides you with a free upgrade to the later “Polar Cry 6″ PlayStation®5 digital game. You will need a PlayStation®5 console or PlayStation®5 digital console, a PlayStation® Network account, additional storage space, and a broadband internet connection (download size to be determined).”

What isn’t clear is if this will apply to physical versions of the game as well. Hopefully Ubisoft will shed some light on that at the event proper when the game is formally announced.

What do you think of the leaked information? Does Far Cry 6 sound like it’s doing enough new? Or is it too similar to previous titles? What about Giancarlo playing the antagonist? Sound off in the comments with your thoughts! As always, thanks for reading Culture of Gaming!!
